Current Job Offerings

Bartender

The Chef & The Bee is currently in search of a few experienced bartenders to join our catering team. This is a per diem position. We have many catered events scheduled for the 2023 season and anticipate even more for the 2024 season.


Responsibilities:

  • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of The Chef & The Bee: to capture the character and beauty of Vermont and showcase its bountiful resources in our restaurant and catering services and to inspire diners to eat & drink locally and sustainably.
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks consistent with The Chef & The Bee's standard drink recipes.
  • Accept guest payment, process credit card charges, and make change if necessary.
  • Check identification of guests to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol.
  • Present drink menus, make recommendations, and answer questions regarding beverages.
  • Take food and beverage orders from serving staff or directly from guests seated at the
    bar.
  • Mix ingredients, such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters, to prepare cocktails and
    other drinks.
  • Serve snacks or food items to guests seated at the bar.
  • Record drink orders accurately and immediately after having received them into the POS
    system.
  • Balance cash receipts.
  • Attempt to limit problems and liability related to guests’ excessive drinking by taking
    steps such as persuading guests to stop drinking or ordering taxis or other transportation
    for intoxicated guests.
  • Clean and sterilize glasses, utensils, and bar equipment.
  • Stock bar with beer, wine, liquor, and related supplies such as ice, glassware, napkins, or
    straws.
  • Clean and reset bars, work areas, and tables.
  • Slice and pit fruit and prepare other garnishes for drinks.
  • Arrange and maintain bottles and glasses in an attractive and functional manner to
    support efficient drink preparation, promotion of beverages, and attractive displays.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the bar including counters, sinks, utensils, shelves and
    storage areas.
  • Report all equipment problems and bar maintenance issues to the manager.
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offers suggestions for improvement.
  • Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the
    operation of the restaurant and/or event.
  • Fill-in for fellow employees where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient
    operations.
  • Comply with all food and beverage regulations.


Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a bartender.
  • Vermont DLC certified.
  • Ability to keep the bar organized, stocked and clean.
  • Positive attitude and excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of a second language (Not required but a plus).
  • Computer literacy.
  • Excellent knowledge of mixing, garnishing and serving drinks.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • ServSafe Alcohol Certification (Not required but a plus).

Job Type: As Needed (Per Diem).

Pay: $7.00/hour plus tips

Work Location: Multiple Locations (travel within Vermont will be required)

Server/FOH Staff

The Chef & The Bee is currently in search of a few experienced servers to join our catering team. This is a per diem position. We have many catered events scheduled for the 2023 season and anticipate even more for the 2024 season.


Responsibilities:

  • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of The Chef & The Bee: to capture the character and beauty of Vermont and showcase its bountiful resources in our restaurant and catering services and to inspire diners to eat & drink locally and sustainably.
  • Set up facilities for events including tables, dishware, glassware, silverware, linens and other amenities according to the event order requirements and manager’s direction. 
  • Establish pre-function side work to be performed. 
  • Ensure all equipment is accounted for and in good condition. 
  • Assist in breaking down after events and returning all event items to proper location. 
  • Notify manager of any unusual occurrences during an event or any missing or damaged items.
  • Know the menu for each function and be able to explain the major ingredients and preparation methods for each item to be served.
  • Serve food or beverages to guests and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required.
  • Serve in a timely manner. Promote and maintain the highest level of customer service to all guests. Resolve guest complaints within scope of authority and refer escalated matters to management.
  • Maintain clean tables and banquet areas and an organized linen storage area.
  • Implement and maintain all Vermont Health Code policies and procedures.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Check guests’ identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant.
  • Fill-in for fellow employees where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations.
